Eagle Higher Education Scholarship Commences for First Batch of High Flyers

District winners of the 1994 Year Five Examination were the first batch of Eagle high flyers to receive the benefits of the Eagle Higher education scholarships, at a function held at the Trans Asia Hotel recently. This was held under the patronage of the Minster of Education Hon Susil Premajayantha.
As this is a scholarship for higher education, the students' commence to receive their scholarship benefit of Rs 1000/- monthly, on entry into the advance level. This payment continues during their university career as well . Those students who do not enter the university are given a lump sum of Rs 25,000/- as a career starter.
This scheme was inaugurated in 1995 by Her Excellency the President Chandrika Bandaranayake Kumaratunga , for students who received the highest marks in their respective districts at the Year Five Scholarship examination. Since then it has been continued annually, in keeping with Eagle's long-term commitment to recognize excellence & develop the leaders of tomorrow.
Since its inception a total of 196 students have benefited from this scheme. The continuity of the scheme is ensured with the setting up of a trust fund of Rs. 10 million with Bank of Ceylon being the trustee to the fund. This fund has now grown to the value of Rs. 20 million under the management of Eagle NDB Mutual Funds/Unit Trusts Company, a subsidiary of Eagle Insurance.
Present at the award ceremony to honor and show their support to the brightest of the land were officials from the Education Ministry, Education Department, Bank of Ceylon and the media.
