Eagle Samana – “Creating-an-Equally-abled-Society - November 2007

Eagle’s consistent effort to enhance the well being of  the Sri Lankan community has resulted in the launch of its latest innovative CSR-platform “Eagle Samana” towards  creating “an equally-abled-society.”

Seminar Participants

The core objective of Eagle Samana is to enhance the knowledge of teachers who work with disabled children, through a series of workshops and training modules featuring recognized resource persons in the field of special education. This will help enhance the educational-development of specially-abled children to achieve their potential, and become fulfilled-citizens of the country.

As a first step a multi-media-campaign was carried out to call-for-applications from teachers and volunteers, for the inaugural national level workshop. The response was extremely positive and over 1000 teachers, parents and volunteers from all over the island attended Eagle’s knowledge enhancing workshop for teachers of disabled children, held at BMICH, Colombo in October 2007.

Experts in the field of Special Education were selected, to ensure  that the knowledge they shared at the event added value to the participants of the workshop.
The event was implemented in collaboration with, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Social Service & Social Welfare, Ministry of Child Development and Women’s Empowerment. Special facilities were also made available by The Sunera Foundation.

This inaugural workshop will be followed by a series of regional workshops which will be more focused and interactive.

Eagle  staff who  have volunteered to support the project will be trained as volunteer-teachers. They will then be assigned to selected special-needs schools.

Felicitating-Bravery

In 2005 Eagle's continuing endeavors to support the community was enhanced when the Company became a the principal sponsor of the National Civilian Bravery Award. These awards recognise those recognizing those who have saved lives at the risk of their own.

Eagle conducted a media-campaign in a bid to drive the concept across-the-nation and to inspire noble-values such as compassion and bravery while applauding selfless-actions. Eagle’s active-involvement has elevated this endeavor to the point that it has won the commendation of President Mahinda Rajapakse, who honored the award-winners with a felicitation at his official-residency. Recipient of the 2006 Gold Medal was Sathyamoorthi, a janitor who rescued two children from a house-on-fire.
